Child Hood
Louis XIV was born on September 5, 1638. He was given the name “Louis-Dieudonné" (Louis the God-given) Because his mother had experienced four stillbirths before him. Louis and his mother had an exceptionally strong bond which was very uncommon for this time. In 1643 Louis’ father, Louis XIII was sensing imminent death. He decided that instead of letting his wife become queen of France he would create a regency council that would rule on his sons behalf. At age four young Louis became the King of France.
